Potash Feldspar 200 Mesh Ceramic Grade (CAS 68476-25-5, molecular formula KAlSi3O8) is a raw material for tile, sanitaryware, tableware and refractory production, where particle size and impurity profile drive fired colour and body strength. What Is Potash Feldspar?
Feldspar is an aluminosilicate mineral family; "potash" feldspar specifically denotes a feldspar where potassium oxide (K2O) significantly exceeds sodium oxide (Na2O) — typically analysing around 11% K2O, 3% Na2O, 18% Al2O3 and 66% SiO2, with a melting point near 1200°C. It supplies the alkali flux that lowers the vitrification temperature of a ceramic body or glaze, alongside alumina for stability and silica as the glass former.
Potash vs. Soda Feldspar — The Practical Difference
Potassium feldspar melts at a higher temperature than soda feldspar and produces a noticeably more viscous melt — in practice, this gives a wider, more forgiving firing range and is why industry tends to favour potash feldspar for matte glazes, while soda feldspar’s lower-viscosity, lower-temperature melt is generally preferred for glossy finishes, often formulated alongside Calcined Kaolin in the body or glaze recipe.
