What Is Acetone?
Acetone (propanone, dimethyl ketone) is a clear, colourless, highly volatile liquid with a sweet, slightly fruity odour and the formula C3H6O. It is the simplest ketone, fully miscible with water and most organic solvents, and it evaporates very quickly and cleanly. These properties make acetone one of the most widely used solvents for dissolving resins, plastics, fats and oils. This grade is supplied at 99.5% minimum purity.
Acetone 99.5% Technical Grade (CAS 67-64-1, molecular formula C3H6O) is a workhorse solvent across coatings, cleaning and process manufacture, valued for its predictable evaporation behaviour and consistent purity from batch to batch. China Chemicals supplies it at 99.5% min in pack sizes from 1 L through to 200 L Drum, so laboratory trial quantities and full production volumes can be sourced from the same specification.
It is also traded as Propanone, Dimethyl Ketone, 2-Propanone. Every consignment ships with a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis and the current Safety Data Sheet, and material is stored and picked under stock rotation so you receive product well inside its shelf life.

Handling and safety
Transport classification: UN1090. Confirm the proper shipping name, hazard class and packing group against the current SDS and transport documents before shipping. Primary health hazard: Flammable Liquid, Class 3. Store in the original closed container in a cool, well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials, and handle using appropriate personal protective equipment. Read the Safety Data Sheet in full before use — it is issued with every order and is available on request before purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is acetone used for?
As a fast-evaporating solvent in coatings, inks and adhesives, a cleaning and degreasing solvent, a nail-polish remover, and a chemical feedstock for products such as methyl methacrylate and bisphenol A.
Is acetone flammable?
Yes, highly flammable, with a flash point around -20°C and a wide flammable range. Keep it well away from ignition sources and use it with good ventilation.
Why does acetone evaporate so fast?
It has a low boiling point (about 56°C) and high volatility, which makes it quick-drying but also means vapour builds up fast without ventilation.
How does acetone compare to MEK?
Both are ketone solvents; acetone evaporates faster, while Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) dries a little slower and has stronger solvency for some resins. Isopropyl Alcohol is used where a milder, less aggressive solvent is wanted.
Is acetone toxic?
Acetone has a relatively low order of toxicity compared with many solvents and the body produces small amounts naturally, but it is an irritant and highly flammable and must be handled with proper ventilation and PPE.
