Toluene 99.8% Technical Grade (CAS 108-88-3, molecular formula C7H8) is a workhorse solvent across coatings, cleaning and process manufacture, valued for its predictable evaporation behaviour and consistent purity from batch to batch. China Chemicals supplies it at 99.8% min in pack sizes from 1 L through to 200 L Drum, so laboratory trial quantities and full production volumes can be sourced from the same specification.

What Is Toluene?
Toluene (methylbenzene, toluol) is a clear, colourless liquid with a sweet, aromatic odour and the formula C7H8. It is a fast-to-medium evaporating aromatic solvent with a boiling point of about 110.6°C, strong solvency for a wide range of resins, oils and rubbers, and is practically insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents. This grade is supplied at 99.8% minimum purity, with benzene content held to 0.1% maximum, which matters because benzene is a recognised carcinogen and a low, controlled level is an important quality marker.
Applications
Toluene is one of the most widely used industrial solvents, found in paints, coatings, thinners, inks, adhesives and rubber solutions. Its fast, clean evaporation and strong dissolving power make it a standard choice for nitrocellulose and many resin systems.
It is also a major chemical feedstock, used to make benzene and xylene, toluene diisocyanate (for polyurethanes), benzoic acid and other derivatives, and it is used as an octane booster in fuels. In coating work toluene is frequently blended with slower aromatics such as Xylene and with oxygenated solvents such as N-Butanol to tune the evaporation balance.
Handling & Storage
Toluene is a highly flammable liquid with a flash point around 4°C, so it must be kept well away from heat, sparks and open flame, with bonding and grounding during transfer and good ventilation at all times.
It is harmful if inhaled or swallowed, irritates the eyes, skin and respiratory tract, and repeated or high exposure can affect the nervous system, so use gloves, eye protection and adequate ventilation and avoid breathing vapour.
Store toluene in a cool, well-ventilated place in tightly closed containers away from strong oxidisers and ignition sources, and follow the current Safety Data Sheet.
